Background

I am a Clinical Fellow and Honorary Speciality Trainee in endodontics. I graduated from Newcastle University in 2005 with Honours and distinctions in Restorative Dentistry and Oral Subjects (Oral Radiology, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology). Following two-years as a General Professional Trainee at Newcastle Dental Hospital, and completion of the MFDS examination, I served in the Royal Army Dental Corps for 12-years. In additional to serving on overseas operations and exercises, I was able to complete a number of post-graduate qualifications which enhanced my interest and knowledge of restorative dentistry, medical education and research.

I returned to Newcastle Dental Hospital in 2019, taking up the position of Academic Clinical Fellow and Honorary Speciality Trainee in Endodontics, giving me the opportunity to undertake combined academic and speciality training. In 2022 I began my tenure at Newcastle University, enabling me to combine research, teaching and speciality training, whilst also undertaking a PhD.

Research
My research interests focus on the management of deep caries and acute and persistent dental pain. My PhD aims to explore pain mechanisms in toothache and how our approaches to toothache may influence these. 
Teaching

I am involved in both clinical supervision of undergraduates and postgraduates and the delivery of lectures on endodontics, anatomy and neuroscience.
