Street Science

Our student team of Street Scientists deliver STEM-focused workshops in your school and at our on-campus events.

The Street Science programme started in 2012, primarily as science busking activities offered at public engagement events.

The programme has expanded, it now offers STEM workshops aimed at primary school children, as well as science busking at a range of events.

At the Newcastle University Engagement & Place Awards In 2023, the Street Science team were proud to be awarded the Vice Chancellor and President's Award, in recognition of their public engagement activities.

Who are the Street Science team?

The Street Science team comprises current Newcastle University students with a keen interest in science. The students may be studying STEM degrees or have a passion for science.

Street Science aims to enthuse students and the public about studying STEM subjects and science in general. Our workshops and science demonstrations are designed to engage, educate and work towards breaking the stereotypes associated with STEM subjects.

A huge success, the assembly was engaging, exciting and very informative. The assembly was delivered at an age appropriate level which meant all children were able to learn. There was a real buzz during the group work with the Street Scientist.
