Head Start to Uni: Year 13 event
Get a head start on your application to University. Open for bookings by individual students or small school groups.
What is involved?
Head Start to Uni is an event for Year 13 students. This is your chance to visit Newcastle University. You can see our campus, talk to current students, and gain information and advice. This will help prepare you for your journey into higher education.
Part of the event includes a welcome talk. This is where we will discuss the afternoon. We will also introduce the Student Ambassadors and staff. They will be on hand throughout the event to answer any queries.
During the event, you have the option to go on a campus tour led by a current student of Newcastle University. This is your chance to see Newcastle University and gain an insight into what it is like to study with us. During the tour, you will see our main campus. This includes our Library, Sports Centre, and Students Union.
You will also attend 1 or 2 workshops. We have designed these workshops to prepare you for your next steps in applying to university. Recent graduates of the University and Newcastle University staff lead these talks.

This event gives you the opportunity to:
- discover information about applying to university
- tailor the event to develop your knowledge where you need it
- gain confidence in the application process
- enhance your critical thinking skills
- meet and chat with current students
- explore our campus
We designed Head Start to Uni to be as flexible as possible to fit around you. The event will take place between 13:30 and 18:00 in late October 2024.
You can attend up to two workshops. But, if you want to attend one, that’s OK too! You can arrive for your workshop or arrive early/stay later for a campus tour as well.

The PARTNERS Programme is Newcastle University’s access scheme and is open to students across the UK. If eligible, students can receive a lower conditional offer and are supported with the transition from school or college. This presentation explains what PARTNERS is, the eligibility criteria, and gives information about the PARTNERS Academic Summer School.

Student booking
If the event becomes oversubscribed we may allocate places on Head Start to Uni using our PARTNERS criteria. The more criteria an applicant meets, the more likely you are to be offered a place on Head Start to Uni.

Due to capacity, school group bookings are limited to 15 places per school/college.
